What is asphalt repair?
Asphalt repair covers everything between routine maintenance and full reconstruction — saw-cut patching, pothole repair, surface restoration, and full-depth removal and replacement of failed sections. It's the work that brings a deteriorating pavement back to a serviceable condition without the cost and downtime of replacing the entire lot.
Most pavement failures start small. Hairline cracks let water in, water erodes the base, base failures become potholes, and untreated potholes spread into surrounding pavement. Catching damage at the patch stage — rather than waiting until reconstruction is the only option — is the difference between a $2,000 fix and a $200,000 fix.
We scope asphalt repair around the actual condition of the pavement — not a generic schedule. That means a documented assessment of each damaged area, a recommendation for the right repair type (skin patch vs full-depth, hot mix vs cold patch), and a written scope that explains the trade-offs.
Signs your pavement needs repair
- Visible potholes or surface depressions
- Alligator (interconnected) cracking that won't respond to crack sealing
- Edge raveling along entrances or perimeter
- Birdbaths and standing water after rain
- Patches from prior repairs that have failed or sunken
- Heaving or settling around utility trenches and drains
Our asphalt repair process

Damage assessment
We field-walk and document each damaged area, classify the failure type, and recommend the right repair — patch vs full-depth, hot mix vs cold patch.
- 2
Saw-cutting & removal
Failed pavement is saw-cut to clean, square edges and removed down to a sound base. Clean cuts make patches that last; ragged cuts make patches that fail at the seams.
- 3
Base prep
The exposed base is inspected, stabilized if needed, and tack-coated to bond the new asphalt to the surrounding pavement.
- 4
Hot mix installation
Hot-mix asphalt is placed in lifts at proper temperature and thickness — not poured-and-walked-on cold patch product, which is a temporary fix.
- 5
Compaction
Patches are compacted with a vibratory plate or roller to specification density, then crowned slightly so the patch settles flush after the first rain.
- 6
Documentation
Locations, square footage, depth, and photos filed with you so you have a record of what was done where.
What makes Austin Pavement Co. different
We use only Austin-compliant materials. See our compliance standards.
Properly compacted patches
Patches are compacted to specification — not just rolled flat with a plate compactor and called done.
Clean cut edges
Every patch starts with a clean saw-cut edge. No ragged borders, no premature failure at the seams.
Maintenance integration
Patch work is scoped as part of broader maintenance — sealcoat, crack seal, restripe — so the lot ends up uniformly refreshed.
Documented scope
Every patched area is photographed and recorded so you have a defensible record of what was repaired.
